If you are looking to go to the movies for a mindless action film, this is not the one for you. The plot is pretty intricate and if you get up to use the bathroom at any point, you’ll have a hard time figuring out what you missed. Perhaps I was not in the right mindset or was tired after a busy week, but I had no idea what was going on through most of the film.
That being said, this is a film that you can still enjoy despite being confused by the plot. It is extremely stylish and the action scenes are not like what we normally see. Charlize Theron is STUNNING and James McAvoy gives a great performance as usual (go rent Split to see him in what should be an Oscar-nominated role).
You’ll dance in your seat to the awesome 80’s soundtrack. You’ll cringe during some of the extended and very violent fight sequences (Charlize did all her own stunts for the film, which includes an 8-minute long fight scene done in one take). We should also take a moment to appreciate the kick-ass outfits Charlize wears throughout the film.
I plan on watching this one again, but with someone who can explain to me what is happening. You’ll get the overall gist of it, which is just enough to like it.
You’ll like this one if you liked: John Wick, Taken, and The Bourne Series.
