I love Brad Pitt. I love zombies. So I pretty much already loved this movie before I saw it. I did not however expect the two hour panic attack I would have watching it in the theater. All the chaos starts right away, I mean within five minutes. BOOM!!! Zombie apocalypse!! People and zombies running around like chickens with their heads cut off for two full hours. There were hardly any moments in the movie where I could calm down and catch my breath. The characters in the movie handled it better than I did. I had the urge to cry the whole time.
The plot is pretty good and somehow manages to be different yet the same as other zombie movies. Different in a good way. The same in a good way. Different as in the solution to the crisis is not one I have seen in any other zombie movies. The same as in it has the same tone and look of other zombie movies. I would put this one right up there with Dawn of the Dead and 28 Days Later.
Sure there are some comical parts that were probably not intentional, but who are we kidding? Zombies can be kinda funny when they are just walking around or standing still, and there are always those idiotic characters we are all amazed survived the normal world before the zombies came. Another good thing about this movie, is that it doesn’t need all the blood and guts that zombie movies usually have. It doesn’t try to gross you out. While this is great for shows like The Walking Dead, this movie did not need it.
Overall, this is a fun, exciting, scary, edge of your seat, awesome addition to the zombie movie genre. Music is great (and creepy), acting is great, effects are great, story is great, action is great. The movie is……….GREAT. Go see it!
Final note: I’ve got another girl crush……..Daniella Kertesz. She plays the badass (and nearly bald) Israeli soldier named Segen, who helps Brad Pitt’s character in the second half of the film. She gives a great stand-out performance and goes through some tough stuff that would cripple any normal person, but she keeps going as if nothing happened. B.A.D. A.S.S. C.H.I.C.K.
