Based on all the buzz on Twitter and Facebook and all your friends who have seen it, there really is no need for a review. But who cares! I’m gonna gush about this movie anyway…………….and if you’ve seen it, you will probably enjoy reading this review.
If you are a fan of ANY of the Fast and Furious movies, I guarantee you will go nuts for the newest installment. Ever since 2 Fast 2 Furious, the whole “that could never happen” game became irrelevant. These movies are not meant to be realistic or believable. They are meant to blow your mind and provide a fun viewing experience. Who really goes to one of these movies wanting the action sequences to stay true to physics? No one. We want to see cars fly, swim, crash, jump, multiply, turn into aliens, and fly some more. Well…………you get my point.
In Fast and Furious 6, the cars and characters pretty much do everything but sprout wings. There are flying squirrel moves, crazy bat mobile like cars, giant superhero like men fighting each other, cars taking down and flying out of planes, people flying through the air and not dying. It gets extremely insane and ridiculous, but I enjoyed every minute of it. We have all become emotionally attached to these characters, which is rare for an action franchise. Usually action movies focus on explosions and sacrifice character development in order to fit in more prolonged action sequences. Somehow, Fast and Furious manages to have both. Especially this installment.
Everyone loves Michelle Rodriguez, and if you don’t, you are lying. When she was “killed” in the fourth movie, we all wanted to riot outside of the writer’s house. Or maybe some people did and it worked. She is back and more likeable than ever. I won’t ruin anything by telling you how exactly she rose from the dead, but I’ll just say it makes sense. I’m continually impressed at how these movies are able to connect with each other, even with Tokyo Drift, which is completely explained in this movie.
I won’t go too in depth with the story, because there is just way too much to explain. Basically, Fast and Furious 6 is a worthy addition to the franchise and may even be the best one yet. The action sequences, despite being completely unrealistic, keep you on the edge of your seat. There are plenty of laughs to keep everything light hearted and fun, especially from Ludacris and Tyrese. The eye candy keeps getting better and better with the addition of the God-like figure known as Luke Evans (who actually played a God TWICE in two other films). There are a few twists that made everyone in the theater gasp, especially the very last scene which introduces a new villain. The audience went completely insane. When you see it, you will know why. People cheered.
It is rare that a franchise gets better with every sequel………..and rare that it ever goes past three of them. The Fast and the Furious was a simple action movie with racing cars. 2 Fast 2 Furious amped it up with cars flying onto boats. Tokyo Drift amped it up by having, well, drifting cars. Fast and Furious had cars in tunnels. Fast Five had cars dragging vaults. Fast and Furious 6 has cars flying out of and taking down planes. And yes my friends…………….there will be a 7th installment. We can only expect it to combine all of the things the last 6 had………….and be set in space. Or underwater. Or with time travel. Perhaps.
In other words………….just go see it. And stay safe on the roads afterward…………..despite the strong urge to speed home. You are not Dom or Brian. They are invincible. You are not. This is real life. The cops will catch you.
