(Don’t worry…………there are NO SPOILERS in this review)
This is one of those reviews that is completely unnecessary, as we all know half the world is going to watch this movie and love it. But what the heck! Here is my opinion. Obviously, I loved it. So if you want to stop reading now, you have your answer, so go ahead. But this movie was just too fun not to write about. Here it goes….
Let’s start off with the best part……………….the bad guy. If you know me, you know that the bad guys are always my favorite. This is usually because an awesome actor is cast and bad guys have the best acting opportunities over any other characters. There is also just something sexy about them. Attractive sexy. Interesting sexy. Confusing sexy. However you want to put it. Now, Benedict Cumberbatch has got to be the creepiest man ever (with the coolest name ever). I still and will always refer to him as the creepy rapist guy from Atonement (awesome movie and performance if you haven’t seen it already), BUT he is so good in this role and soooooooo evil, you can’t deny his charisma and talent. It almost makes him attractive. Almost.
His performance definitely puts him in my “Best Bad Guys” list. I actually need to see this movie again, because I was so distracted by his spectacular monologue delivery (in a scene I will not describe or spoil), that I completely missed what he was saying. But enough about him, you get the point.
The rest of the actors are perfect in their roles as well. Zachary Quinto (Spock) had me laughing like an idiot with every line he delivered. Zoe Saldana (Uhura) is adorable. Chris Pine (Kirk) is………..every girl’s reason to watch this movie. Anton Yelchin (Chekov) was entertaining with his fake thick accent. John Cho (Sulu) was bad ass as usual. Karl Urban (Bones) pleased us with his famous lines and Simon Pegg (Scotty)…………is just awesome. Even that Alice Eve had a few impressive scenes, even if she was just an excuse to have a semi-nude clip (that we can all appreciate despite its obvious marketing goal).
The plot (the part I actually paid attention to) was pretty predictable, which is not a big deal to me. I actually like predictable plots sometimes because I don’t stress as much. There is a pretty big spoiler I could give away, but I am pretty sure everyone knew about it already and it was the worst kept secret in a movie ever. Still, I won’t say anything. Also, the ending was kind of cheesy, but the likeable kind of cheesy that fans, I expect, will still enjoy. There was one ridiculous soap opera type part (you will know which one when you see it), that had my friend and I cracking up, but it was so awesome and so bad all at the same time, that we couldn’t help but love it.
Overall, this was a great time at the movies. Great action, comedy, acting, special effects, music, everything a popcorn blockbuster should have. So…………………when is the next one coming out?
