I am not usually one to compare a movie to an original or to a book. However, I did do a bit of that here. Like many, I thought it was a bit strange to have a Spiderman remake so soon after the Tobey Maguire version. I absolutely loved the movie when it came out and even had an incident when I tried to climb a swimming pool diving board like Spiderman might. Unfortunately…….it did not go as well as it would for Spiderman. I just don’t have the same grip.
The screening of Amazing Spiderman was an interesting attempt. The people at the original location it was supposed to show at had no idea what I was talking about when I arrived 3o min early. I then found out (at the time it was starting) that it was moved to another location, and ended up missing the first half hour of the movie. This was no problem however, since I had seen the original and was able to jump right into the story without confusion. I highly doubt that the first half hour could have been so terrible as to make the entire film a disaster, especially since the rest of it (what I saw) was awesome!
First of all, the casting was perfect. Andrew Garfield is absolutely adorable and a WAY better actor than Tobey Maguire (at least in this particular role). Emma Stone is equally adorable and their chemistry is spot on. The action was impressive and fast paced. The plot was similar, but aren’t all superhero movies? Superfreak good guy battles against superfreak bad guy. The end. The special effects were really good as well.
I normally don’t do this, but I went home and watched the Tobey Maguire version after the screening to compare. Don’t you hate when you watch something after a long time and wonder why you ever liked it so much? Unfortunately, this happened again. I will say that the original movie had much better music. That’s about it.
MY FINAL SAY: Go see it!
