I read a lot of reviews and heard a lot of talk about The Raven before seeing it. Honestly, I was a bit discouraged and was expecting something really awful.
I am not saying that all the critics are out of their minds or anything, but I quite enjoyed The Raven. A lot. Sure sure…….it was a crazy extraordinary story with some questionable scenes, but I had a lot of fun. It kind of reminded me of the Johnny Depp movie From Hell, mixed with Sherlock Holmes. I love a good murder mystery thriller, and this movie made the cut.
Now I don’t know a whole lot about Edgar Allen Poe and what really happened to him, but I do understand that this movie is fiction that happens to have a real character in it. So can we please give the movie a break and just enjoy it for what it is?
It was a well made film………the costumes were gorgeous, music was great, cinematography fit the tone of the movie. John Cusack gave a decent performance……….far better than I was anticipating. And Luke Evans…………..made those two hours worth it, good movie or not. Where did this man come from and can he please be in every movie from now on? Thanks.
I will warn you that it is violent. I did not expect it to be THAT violent. But it was only two scenes really that stood out as rather gruesome.
MY FINAL SAY: Go see it.
P.S……..the end credits song is one of my favorites. It was originally in Repomen. Check it out! Burn My Shadow by Unkle.
